The Department started functioning from the year 1998 and is well equipped to cater
to the needs of undergraduate programme as per VCI standards. The department is
offering biostatistics, animal breeding and molecular genetics courses from 2010
onwards to the post graduate students registered in other departments.
The PG program has started in the year 2014 and PhD program in the year 2015. The
department is well equipped with facilities for molecular genetics research. Currently
the department is undertaking research projects on genetic characterization of unrecognized
livestock germplasm in Andhra Pradesh, Polymorphism studies on various agronomically
important traits etc. The department is aimed to establish genetic diagnostic facilities
for various genetic disorders in livestock.
