      The University has three well established Veterinary colleges located at Hyderabad, Tirupati and Gannavaram while two new Veterinary Colleges were established at Proddutur, Kadapa Dt. and Korutla, Karimnagar Dt. during 2008-09.  The College of Fishery Science is located at Muthukur, Nellore Dt.  The Dairy Technology College is at Tirupati while Dairy Technology Programme is at Kamareddy (Nizamabad Dt.).

     The College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad was established on 5-8-1946 as one of the constituent colleges under Osmania University with the objective of imparting and promoting Veterinary education at under-graduate level in erstwhile Hyderabad State. The College was transferred to the fold of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU), on 10th July 1964 and was shifted to Rajendranagar campus in 1968.

 

    The College had the privilege of celebrating its Diamond Jubilee in August 2006 after completion of 60 glorious years of its establishment and released a commemorative Souvenir on the occasion. A new building for the college is being constructed in LRI campus and will be ready for occupation shortly.

      The College was started coinciding with second five year plan on 15th July, 1955 at Bapatla under Administrative control of Department of Animal Husbandry under affiliation to Andhra University. The college was shifted from Bapatla to Tirupati in December, 1957 and was under control of APAU (now ANGRAU).

 

     The College celebrated Silver Jubilee during 13th to 15th October 1980, which was inaugurated by Dr. M.S.Swaminathan, Member planning commission. The year long (July 2004 to July 2005) Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the college commenced with celebration of Teacher’s day on 5th September 2004 in a grand manner. The Golden Jubilee Celebrations were officially inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy on 30th September 2004 in a grand function held at the college auditorium.

 

 
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
                 
           

 

 
   

N.T.R. College of Veterinary Science,  Gannavaram

 

 

 
   

         

 

   The NTR College of Veterinary Science, Gannavaram was established in the year 1997-98 vide G.O.Ms.No33, Agri & Co-op (Agri.III) Department, dated 03-03-1998 and it started functioning from 18-03-1998 thereby fulfilling the long felt need to establish a third college to cater to the needs of the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh for trained Veterinarians. Five batches of graduates have passed out so far from this college.       The Government of Andhra Pradesh established a new Veterinary College at Proddatur vide G.O.Ms. No. 72 , Dated:18.7.2008 of the AHDD & F Dept, Government of Andhra Pradesh.  The college started functioning from a temporary location i.e., from the premises of Proddutur Co-Operative Milk Producers Union, Proddatur from the academic year 2008-09.  During the year 31 students were admitted to the first year B.V.Sc & A.H course. The Government vide G.O. Ms.No.1162, Dated:03.10.08 of the Revenue (ENDTS.II) Department has allotted land to an extent of Ac.83-42 cts on long lease basis for the construction of new building for the college.

College of Veterinary Science,  Korutla

    

    The Government of Andhra Pradesh established a second new Veterinary College during the year 2008-09 at Korutla vide G.O.Ms. No. 96 , Dated:19.9.2008 of the AHDD & F Dept, Government of Andhra Pradesh.  The College started functioning from a temporary RCC building  from the academic year 2008-09.  During the year 19 students were admitted to the first year B.V.Sc & A.H students. The District Collector, Karimnagar Dt. vide his Lr.No. E1/5625/2008 Dated:28.11.08 has allotted land to an extent of Ac.72-19 cts on long lease basis for the construction of new college building.

 
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
                 
                 
                 
   

College of Fishery Science,  Muthukur

 

     The College of Fishery Science,  Muthukur, the  only one of  its kind in Andhra Pradesh, was established on 31st August 1991 as a constituent College of the then Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (Now ANGRAU), Hyderabad. The College started functioning from 1st September 1992 in the Premises of the Agricultural Research Station, ANGRAU, Nellore and on 1st November 1994 the College was shifted to its  own campus at Muthukur village along the Nellore Krishnapatnam Port road. The College has been accredited to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, with effect from 14th August 2001.  It has become a constituent college of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU), Tirupati from 1st April 2006

         

 

 

 

 
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
   

       Sixteen acres of Government  land in Muthukur Panchayat, joining Muthukur Tank, was handed over to the University and the main campus of the College was established on it. In addition, 100 acres of coastal land under Krishnapatnam Panchayat was allotted and a Brackish water Fish Farm was developed. But in 2006 this land was taken over for Port use and 16.6 ha Fresh Water Fish Farm at  Eguvamitta (Epuru) has been allotted as an alternate site to the College by the Dept of Fisheries, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the University has earmarked funds for its development

 
     
     
                 
                 
                 
   

Dairy  Technology  College

    The Dairy Technology Programme at the College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati was started in 1983 and was elevated to college status during June, 2009.   It imparts education for undergraduate program in Dairy Science / Dairy Technology with an annual intake of 20 students, which is now raised to 25 students. Dairy Technology students are admitted from engineering stream of EAMCET examinations.

 

    During the last two and half decades of its existence, the DTC, Tirupati could acquire adequate infrastructural and lab facilities. It has a building of its own accommodating class rooms, labs, library , office and faculty rooms. The DTC, Tirupati is running an independent experimental milk processing unit with necessary facilities for processing milk as part of the learning activities of the students.

          Laboratories for different disciplines like Dairy Technology, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry, and Dairy Engineering are well established. The discipline of Dairy Business Management is also newly created. A modern computer laboratory with internet facility is also established.         

 

          Production of soy based diabetic frozen dessert and production of sterilized herbal flavored milk are the new dairy products produced in DTC’s Dairy plant. Students have been involved in ‘Earn while you Learn program’. Conducting training programs for rural women on milk products preparation, conducting Rytu sadassus / kisan melas, and training programs for field officers of AH and line departments are some of the regular activities being taken up in the DTC, Tirupati.

 
     
     
     
     
                 
                 
                 
   

     The Dairy Technology Programme, Kamareddy, Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh was established on 1-9-2007 with State Government’s orders of transferring the B.Tech (Dairy Technology) course from Government Arts and Science College, Kamareddy, Nizamabad Dt., A.P. It is presently being run in the same buildings of the Govt Degree College. 60 acres of land has been recently got registered in favor of SVVU from the private Kamaredddy Educational Trust, Kamareddy for construction of new  college and hostel buildings and for creating other infrastructural facilities.

 

    With the establishment of a separate Faculty of Dairy Science at University level, the Dairy Technology Programme at Kamareddy has started functioning independently under the direct control of Dean of Dairy Science from 16-7-2007 with the annual budget of Rs.38.68 lakhs and Rs.25.85 lakhs for 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively.

     Five Departments of Dairy Technology, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Engineering and Dairy Business Management have been created and the DTP is running a Dairy Plant of its own. Proposals have been submitted to State Government along with budget estimates of Rs.1095.00 lakhs for 5 years from 2008-09 for elevation of DTP at Kamareddy into a full fledged college with all infrastructural facilities, as it would boost up the activities of the DTP to meet the needs of the Dairy farmers in Telangana region and the demands of the dairy industry in general in that area.
