                    About Us

          The Dairy Technology Programme was started in 1983 at the College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati and was elevated to college status during June, 2009. It imparts education for undergraduate program in Dairy Technology with an annual intake of 25 students, along with 5 students under ICAR quota. Dairy Technology students are admitted from engineering stream of EAMCET examinations. With the formation of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University in 2006, the Dairy Technology Programme at CVSc, Tirupati was brought under the establishment of a separate Faculty of Dairy Science and has started functioning independently under the direct control of Dean of Dairy Science from 16-7-2007.

          During the last two and half decades of its existence, adequate infrastructural and lab facilities were created. It has a building of its own accommodating class rooms, labs, library , office and faculty rooms. The DTP, Tirupati is running an independent experimental milk processing unit with necessary facilities for processing milk as part of the learning activities of the students. Laboratories for different disciplines like Dairy Technology, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry, and Dairy Engineering are well established. The discipline of Dairy Business Management was also created. A modern computer laboratory and a model class room with internet facility are also established.

          Soy based diabetic frozen dessert and production of sterilized herbal flavored milk are the new dairy products produced in the Dairy plant. Students are involved in ‘earn while you learn program’. Conducting training programs for rural women on milk products preparation, conducting Rytu sadassus / kisan melas, and training programs for field officers of AH and line departments are some of the regular activities being taken.

          Two Rashtriay Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) projects 1) Development of equipment for chilling milk using non-conventional energy sources 2) Development of gas operated cold storages for preservation of animal & fish products are in progress.

          Two NAIP/ICAR Projects of three-year duration viz Development of e-courses for B.Tech (Dairy Technology) and Milk Value Chain for the Unorganized sector with total budget outlays of Rs.75.47 lakhs and Rs.61.769 lakhs, respectively are in progress as Consortium Partner Units.
